Why Make Fire Cider Now?

As cooler months approach, it’s a great time to prepare your body for the seasonal challenges ahead. Fire cider is a traditional herbal tonic that strengthens the immune system, reduces inflammation, and improves circulation. With ingredients like garlic, ginger, and honey, this powerful blend is known for its antiviral and antibacterial properties, which can help ward off colds and flu. It may also support the suppression of viral outbreaks like cold sores due to the antiviral nature of garlic and honey.

Key Ingredients, Their Benefits, and Research:

• Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV): ACV is known for its antimicrobial properties, which promote gut health and support overall immunity.

• Garlic: Rich in allicin, garlic boosts immunity and has antiviral effects that may help reduce cold symptoms and viral outbreaks like cold sores.

• Ginger: This root is valued for its anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties, making it an excellent addition for immune support and respiratory health.

• Turmeric: Curcumin, the active compound in turmeric, has anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting effects and has shown antiviral potential in studies.

• Cinnamon and Cloves: These spices contain antioxidants and antimicrobial compounds that support the body in fighting infections.

• Jalapeño/Habanero Peppers: Capsaicin helps boost circulation and alleviate inflammation, making it useful for congestion relief and general health.

• Lime (or Lemon as an alternative): High in vitamin C, both citrus fruits enhance immune function by protecting cells from oxidative damage.

• Raw Honey: Honey’s antiviral and antibacterial properties help soothe infections and support the immune system, making it ideal for winter wellness.

Contraindications: who should not take or seek guidance?

While fire cider is generally safe and beneficial for most people, there are some contraindications to be mindful of. Due to the high acidity of apple cider vinegar, it may irritate those with acid reflux, ulcers, or other digestive issues. People on blood-thinning medications or with clotting disorders should use caution, as ingredients like garlic and ginger may have blood-thinning effects. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have underlying health conditions, it’s best to consult a healthcare provider before using fire cider. Additionally, those with allergies to any of the ingredients should avoid this recipe.

Limitations and expectations

Please remember that getting sick is also part of the human condition and while we may find these practices are helpful in reducing the number of sicknesses, length and severity of symptoms - even those with fully functioning immune systems will get sick. I say this from a truth perspective and to make it easier to let go of the grasping for perfection. Much love to you.

Fire Cider Recipe

Ingredients:

• 2 cups raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar

• 1/4 cup grated ginger root

• 1 head of garlic, peeled and crushed

• 1 red onion, chopped

• 1-2 jalapeño or habanero peppers, chopped (adjust heat to taste)

• 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

• 2 tablespoons turmeric root, grated (or 1 tablespoon ground turmeric)

• 2 tablespoons raw honey (or more, to taste)

• Zest and juice of 1 lime (or lemon as an alternative)

• 1 cinnamon stick (or 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon)

• 5-6 whole cloves

• A few sprigs of fresh rosemary or thyme (optional)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Ingredients: Grate or chop the ginger and turmeric roots. Chop the onion, garlic, and peppers. Zest and juice the lime ((or lemon).

2. Combine Ingredients: Place all the prepared ingredients, including honey, into a large, sterile glass jar (quart-sized works well). Add the cinnamon stick and cloves.

3. Add Vinegar: Pour apple cider vinegar over the ingredients until they are completely submerged. Use a piece of parchment paper under the lid to prevent the vinegar from corroding any metal.

4. Shake and Use: Seal the jar tightly and shake well. You can start using your fire cider immediately, but the flavors and potency will continue to strengthen over 3-4 weeks as the ingredients infuse. Make it a ritual to shake the jar each time you go to the fridge to keep the mixture well blended.

Store and Use:

Keep your fire cider in the refrigerator, where it will last for several months. The tonic will continue to develop and become stronger over time.

How to Use:

• Daily Use: For regular immune support, dilute 1 tablespoon of fire cider in about 500ml of warm water and drink it through a straw to protect your teeth enamel from the acidity of the apple cider vinegar. This method allows for long-term, gentle immune support.

• When Feeling Unwell: If you’re feeling under the weather, you can take 1 tablespoon up to 3 times daily, either straight or diluted in water. If consuming it straight, be sure to swig some water afterward to rinse your teeth and protect your enamel from the acidity.

• Additional Tip: You can also mix the fire cider into tea or other beverages for a more palatable taste.

This fire cider is a potent blend of immune-boosting ingredients, working together to support your health and potentially reduce the frequency of viral outbreaks such as cold sores. With its continued strength and potency over time, it serves as an excellent tonic for staying well through the colder months.

In addition to fire cider; massage, yoga, breathwork, and meditation are seamless practices to support your winter wellness.
